ChatGPT in Classrooms: Meta-Study Confirms Real Gains in Performance and Critical Thinking
ChatGPT is more than just a buzzword in classrooms — a sweeping new meta-analysis of 51 studies finds that it significantly improves student learning performance, enhances learning perception, and boosts higher-order thinking.

The details:
The study reviewed 51 experimental or quasi-experimental studies from November 2022 to February 2025, covering over 70 effect sizes.
It found a large positive effect on learning performance (g = 0.867) and moderate positive effects on learning perception (g = 0.456) and higher-order thinking (g = 0.457).
ChatGPT’s impact varied by course type, learning model, and how it was used — performing best when integrated into problem-based learning and used consistently over 4–8 weeks.
Students benefited most when ChatGPT acted not just as a content tool, but as a learning partner, tutor, or scaffold for complex thinking, especially in STEM and writing-intensive courses.
Despite the positive trends, the study cautioned that more research is needed on perception and critical thinking due to smaller sample sizes and mixed results.

OpenAI Taps Instacart CEO Fidji Simo to Lead New Applications Division
OpenAI has appointed Instacart CEO Fidji Simo to lead a newly created role: CEO of Applications. In this position, she will oversee the company’s product strategy and business operations.

Here’s what to know:
Simo will head a new Applications division, which merges OpenAI’s current business and operations teams that focus on bringing its research into real-world products.
She will report directly to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who said her appointment will allow him to dedicate more time to core areas like research, compute infrastructure, and AI safety.
Simo has been a member of OpenAI’s nonprofit board for the past year and previously spent ten years at Facebook, working on its app and advertising efforts.
This leadership shift follows OpenAI’s recent decision to halt its transition toward a for-profit model and comes as the company rapidly scales its global Stargate initiative.
