Opera’s Agentic Browser

Opera has unveiled Neon, a new AI-powered web browser designed to automate online tasks, generate content, and let users code using natural language, positioning itself as the first “agentic” browser.

Key details:

  • Neon features a built-in AI assistant that handles searches, offers contextual insights, and answers user questions directly within the browser.

  • Users can automate repetitive web activities, such as booking hotels, completing forms, or online shopping, via a tool previously called the “Browser Operator.”

  • It also includes cloud-based AI agents capable of creating digital content like games, websites, and code, with some functionality available offline.

  • Neon will launch as a premium subscription product, with early access offered through a waitlist (pricing not yet disclosed).

UBS Uses AI Avatars to Deliver Analyst Research

UBS, one of Switzerland’s top banks, is using AI-generated avatars of its analysts to deliver research insights to clients more efficiently and in a more engaging format.

Key points:

  • The initiative, which began in January as an opt-in program, has created AI avatars for over 36 of UBS’s 700+ analysts.

  • These avatars, built with Synthesia’s technology in a studio, are featured in videos that present updated research in a personalized way.

  • The videos mimic each analyst’s voice and appearance, with scripts dynamically generated using OpenAI’s models to reflect the latest research.

  • While rollout has been cautious due to language and accent hurdles, UBS aims to expand the program globally and produce around 5,000 labeled AI videos per year.

Anthropic CEO Warns AI Could Wipe Out Half of Entry-Level White-Collar Jobs

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has issued a stark warning to lawmakers and the public, forecasting that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within the next five years and push unemployment rates to 20%.

Key points:

  • Amodei expects AI to write 90% of software code in just six months and nearly all code within a year, drastically transforming tech industry roles.

  • He emphasised that AI’s disruptive effects won’t be limited to tech, but will also hit sectors like finance, law, and consulting, especially at the entry level.

  • Amodei urged immediate action from both governments and AI firms, cautioning that many workers are unaware of how rapidly these changes are approaching and remain sceptical.

  • To address the looming impact, he proposed a mix of solutions, such as improving AI-related skills training, offering worker support programs, and introducing policies like a “token tax” on AI companies.
